Tada… please welcome Suunto Core to the family. With a friend help, it had been hand carried back from the US! And finally i manage to get my hands on the long waited dreamed ABC (Altimeter, Barometer & Compass) wristop computer.
Huh? Wristop computer? Uhmn, Watch?
Yea, i know what is in your mind! Instead of a watch, Suunto call it a wristop computer because this piece of equipment does more than just showing time. Essentially it is a micro computer built like a watch, it can calculates altitudes, monitor air pressure for weather trend, a digital compass with bearing tracking and etc features. Truly a dream device for the outdoorer. Thats why i go hoo ha with it when i first received the item. Geeky!

Anyway, after fiddling it for a day. The Core is impressive, complicated and BIG. Seriously Huge! Activating and setup the device is pretty simple with it’s intuitive wizard and menu on the big LCD screen. Thus readability is quite good except under some low light condition due to it’s negative LCD display. But hey, click on the light and wala very readable. Btw, negative LCD screen looks cool too!
The design is esthetically good looking, and it is fashionable enough to diguise as a normal watch. Not too rugged/crude looking like the Casio Protrek series. That is what i like about the appearance of it.
Been spending time reading up the manual. I must say there is alot of things needed to learn in order to fully utilise it. Especially understanding what is air pressure is all about and why it is important for such device. Calibrating the device with local weather reading is easy. However, i’m still need to get use to the profile selection. Since i am staying on an Apartment, travelling up and down does affect the readings a little causing it to assume to hiking / weather change condition depending on profile. Well, cant wait to try it on a actual hiking trip.
