Subway has been one of my all time favorite food since it open locally. Tasty and healthy. Yum yum, its now part of my routine to have it for lunch every Thursday since they started the “sub of the day” offer. Why Thursday? Well Thursday is the turkey ham and turkey breast sub, which is one of my favorite flavor. Though i like subway club better but cant resist the cheaper offer :)

Anyway, if you still do not know about it,  Subway is offering daily “sub of the day” flavor at RM7.50. So go and have some!

Ever wonder how a cracked coffee cup look like? Did you ever wonder the feeling in holding such a cup and still sipping coffee in the morning?

Well, this morning my cup just cracked without me noticing until i felt stickiness on my hand from taking a sip. No wonder i was seeing some stain on the table thinking i spill some coffee. Well it been giving me the odd feeling for today. Something just not right!

My Cracked Coffee Cup

Anyway, it is not any major crack, but some microscopic line with some coffee oozing out of it. How ironic ah, the coffee cup had been serving me for years now just decided to quit the job.

Lesson of the day, dont assume your coffee cup love the job forever.

Smelly Tofu (Chao Tau Fu)
icon1 Joseph | icon2 Food | icon4 03 18th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

Have you ever tried the famous smelly tofu yet? Yes, smelly tofu! Also known as “Chao Tau Fu” in Cantonese. A very well known extreme delicacy among the people in region of Hong Kong and Taiwan. Yesterday was my 3rd try of it at Pasar Malam (Night Market) in Sg. Long.

It’s actually a dish made from fermented tofu that give a very pungent smell but with a nice crispy taste and texture when you actually eat it. You might heard of it but to actually try is a real challenge.

The smell is describe to smell like some chicken shit if you ever visit some chicken farm before. The smell can be noticeable quickly from a far distance away. However, as you go closer to the food, it actually smell less awful until taking the first bite. That is when your mind start to thing can this thing be actually eaten with that kind of pungent smell. It happen to me even i have tried it before.

Well, i took the bite and they actually taste good. Deep fried served with some pickle cabbage and chilly source. Very crispy… the smell wasn’t an issue once you eat it…  very much a mind game to it. That is what i call food adventure. :D

Suunto Core Black/Yellow

Tada… please welcome Suunto Core to the family. With a friend help, it had been hand carried back from the US! And finally i manage to get my hands on the long waited dreamed ABC (Altimeter, Barometer & Compass) wristop computer.

Huh? Wristop computer? Uhmn, Watch?

Yea, i know what is in your mind! Instead of a watch, Suunto call it a wristop computer because this piece of equipment does more than just showing time. Essentially it is a micro computer built like a watch, it can calculates altitudes, monitor air pressure for weather trend, a digital compass with bearing tracking and etc features. Truly a dream device for the outdoorer. Thats why i go hoo ha with it when i first received the item. Geeky! :P

BIG Core Size

Anyway, after fiddling it for a day. The Core is impressive, complicated and BIG. Seriously Huge! Activating and setup the device is pretty simple with it’s intuitive wizard and menu on the big LCD screen. Thus readability is quite good except under some low light condition due to it’s negative LCD display. But hey, click on the light and wala very readable. Btw, negative LCD screen looks cool too! :P The design is esthetically good looking, and it is fashionable enough to diguise as a normal watch.  Not too rugged/crude looking like the Casio Protrek series. That is what i like about the appearance of it.

Been spending time reading up the manual. I must say there is alot of things needed to learn in order to fully utilise it.  Especially understanding what is air pressure is all about and why it is important for such device. Calibrating the device with local weather reading is easy. However, i’m still need to get use to the profile selection. Since i am staying on an Apartment, travelling up and down does affect the readings a little causing it to assume to hiking / weather change condition depending on profile. Well, cant wait to try it on a actual hiking trip. :D

Wee, finished the first running event in 2009. The 20km route is pretty fun, started from Lake Garden (Tasik Perdana) and circle around Bukit Tunku and head toward MATRADE Center with lots of up hill run. Tough for me but we were treated with a lot of nice villas around that area with some nice cars in the porch. Though we shall only peek and feel envious. The route is pretty scenic too especially for a first timer like me. KL is pretty new to me… this is the first time i get a glimpse of KL through the few greens hills/park in vicinity of the city.

So far, this is the 2nd Pacesetter Malaysia event i joined. They are well organized! We get treated with some nice medal, timing chip, nice quick dry sleeveless t-shirts, PowerBar sponsored drinking stations, breakfast after the run and best of all, lot of watermelon to quench you thirst. hehe. very fun experience even thought i got back with abit of limping due to some old injury. bad legs bad legs!

Another cool looking pewter medal :D

Dec 22

The past weekend were fully loaded with activities.

Saturday, was the last training with MAPs for the year 2008.  We did White Water Rafting at Sg. Kampar. Though we did not manage to train on the upper river due to the very high water level, we did 2 rounds from the middle point. We then ended the training with goodielicious Ipoh famous chicken rice (lou wong shop).  Yum yum, fully filled with yummy chicken before heading back to KL. Reached home pretty late and had to get ready for the Malakoff 12km run on the next morning at early 7am.

Phew, manage to reach Kiara Rimba just in time for the race. Just a few minute before the run starts.  The run was fun and tough, lots of up and down hill throughout the route. The lack of sleep is really a struggle especially when i sprained my right ankle half way through. But but and but… i am very glad that i manage to drag myself to finish it within qualifying time. :D Been walking with a limping right leg ever since. Man, i hope to get better asap so that i can better enjoy Christmas!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Malakoff Finisher Medal

Check out the very nice looking Malakoff Medal. Pewter Goodness.

I done my first 25km
icon1 Joseph | icon2 Random | icon4 11 21st, 2008| icon3No Comments »

Yeah, finally i done my first 25km half marathon. Finish it in a slow pace of 3 hour 09 minutes 4 second. Total damage was 2808 calories according to my Suunto Coach and a left knee injury upon reaching the opposite of the bridge! Dragging myself back proved to be very tough, but it was worth it even to walk like a cripple for a few days after that.

I’m happy that i am able to finish even with those excruciating pain on the knee. But the best part is to enjoy the whole running event. This is the first time i am enjoying the awesome night view of the bridge.  Never have i seen and enjoy that magnificent view of the bridge directly standing there. They look so beautiful. On my way running back. Sunrise was another amazing feat. Simply breathtaking and it just took my pain away. Just a few minutes though! hehe Felt the pain again when the sun is out. Aiks!

Been recuperating for a few days, body seem to back to how it was. :) Looking forward to more runs! Chill…

Suunto T4c

Got this about 2 weeks ago and it has been helping me to train better, just like having a personal coach. The Suunto T4c tells and recommend you how you should be training base on your setup and current physiology. It constantly monitor and adjust to my training progress and update the plans for my next workout.

For example, it tells you how intense to train for how long for the day and rest for the next day. Or it could recommend a lighter workout intensity which is more comfortable for recovery. And i tend to obey it :P

Additionally, it also has real-time heart rate, hr zones, calories burned, stopwatch, dual time, alarm, data logging and more. It comes with latest generation of heart rate belt that is very comfortable to wear. It can be pair with optional POD such as FOOT, BIKE and GPS POD. Synchronization of training data to a PC can be done with optional PC POD too.

Pretty nifty feature eh? Thought it sound complicated and techie to use at first, it is actually very straight forward after a week of using it. And yes, this thing is a motivator. it motivate you when you can see your real-time status especially number of calories burned. Highly recommended! Be sure to protect it with Invisible Shield for scratch proofing screen!

Features

  • Suunto coach: automatic, dynamically adjusting training program to improve fitness
  • Interference free digital ANT transmission and coding
  • Training effect in real-time
  • Speed and distance with optional PODs
  • Training logbook on device
  • Comfort belt for improved fitness and measurement

Check out the cool INJINJI performance socks.

Bought it more than a month ago and it cost a whooping RM58 a pair. crazy ah! well.. this is my first performance socks. It was recommended to me by some regular runners when we talked about how my feet got blister due to the constant rubbing between toes. Having a little faith in their words, i decided to try with skeptical feeling that i be wasting my money. After spending some time running with it, I’m a believer on this awesome product! NO MORE BLISTER so far! so let me share about it here!

Yea, at first glance, it looks like a normal toe socks available cheaply on market! But hold on, this is a different breed made with high quality materials in a proper construction that fits perfectly on the feet anatomically to protect all our toes and provide better comfort to the feet. They are thin and allow restriction free movements.

Read more about it here.

For me, it helps eliminates my toe blister problem. Putting it on was pretty easy and they feels great too. Moving around, all toes can be move freely just like been barefoot. Unlike wearing any other socks, you feel like your feet is wrapped in a thick cotton beg and toes are being cramp together. My running experience is pretty awesome with it, they generate very little heat and feet feels dry and cool. Been able to run more often and longer with it. I’m sure to buy another pair for running use.

Lastly, this turn me into socks caring, washing it by hand, and using it sparely only for my running session. I never do that to some socks before, usually they are treated like a junk! hehe

so, have blister problem? try this yourself!
